After successful implementation of the visa exemption for European travelers, Vietnam is pushing ahead with a plan to eliminate visas for overseas Vietnamese, their families and foreigners married to Vietnamese nationals.

The draft decree covering such waivers is currently being completed. If approved, overseas Vietnamese, their spouses and children would no longer need to apply for a visa to enter Vietnam.

Those seeking to take advantage of the new policy would have to present papers proving they are Vietnamese living in another country.

Finally, spouses of Vietnamese nationals would also be eligible for the waivers that would presumably override visa exemptions that are currently in place.

For those who are not exempted from a Vietnam visa, they may get one in either of the following options:

  1. Apply for a visa at Vietnam embassy (full-stamped visa prior to their departure to Vietnam); OR
  2. Apply for a visa on arrival to Vietnam via (get visa approval letter online and then get visa stamped upon arrival at Vietnam airport.
